Backlink To The Future – How Article Marketing Helps Your Off Page SEO
ByBackLink To The Future (c) is an off-page (White Hat) SEO technique using article marketing as a means to build a multitude of strong backlinks in order to turn your webpages into Google friendly online-search-engine-spider-heavens ranking high (very high) on your chosen keywords.
Sounds good?
Is good. Let me explain:
I. Keywords
Talking about backlinks we are automatically talking about search engine optimization or short SEO. And we all know that keywords are the foundation of any attempt to use search engine optimisation as a means to drive free traffic to our webpages. You have to master your specific niche´s keywords to do the best possible on-page SEO on your pages.
Realize that you always (Always) want to rank high for the exact keywords (and not for ANY keywords) you are targeting. And you´ll know which ones are the right ones after you have done your specific topic´s keyword research.
Hey, stay with me, I am talking about backlinks hence off-page SEO in a second..but, you see, what sense would it make to have a ton of quality backlinks linking to the wrong or semi-optimal keywords? You are right. None. Therefore the preliminaries about keywords.
II. Backlinks
Now let´s talk about backlinks also called inbound links. They are the most important ingredient of your SEO efforts to ensure that your pages rank high in Google. It is widely accepted that the best backlinks you can get are links embedded in a text-body such as in an article or in a blog post.
Let me give you my definition of backlinks:
Backlinks are links on one website that lead back to another website or webpage.
Let me reiterate: They are the backbone of search engine positioning and seo marketing.
In order for a webpage, webpost or lens to be on the top of search engine search results for any chosen keywords they need to have backlinks. And the better the quality of these backlinks are the more ranking power they add to the page.
Not all links are created equal. Links can be of low or high quality in Google´s eyes.
Google looks at backlinks like this:
1. The higher the Page Rank of a website that carries the link to your website is (Page Rank is Google´s own quality score system ranging from 0-10, 10 being the best possible score. Do not confuse Page Rank with the ranking of a webpage on a Google search!) the more power it has to help your website to gain a high position in search engine search results.
2. The more quality backlinks a webpage gets the better.
3. The quantity of backlinks is – in general- an important factor for high positioning in search engine search results.
III. Article Marketing
One fabulous method to get a high quantity of quality backlinks in order to reach high search engine results positioning for your webpage is to employ article marketing.
You can post articles to web 2.0 sites (like Squidoo.com, hubpage.com,zimbio.com to name a few), article sites (the most known being ezinearticles.com) and article directories and you can use your aticles as press releases as well without paying a dime.
These articles containing your links to your desired webpages are your best way to design the future of your Google search rank.
Make sure to use your main keywords as an anchor text link, that is the specific keyword in the article being your link to your desired URL.
Many of these sites you can post to have a high Page Rank so they have a good link power to boost your webpage rank in Google when you have placed your contextual link.
But of course as always, there is a BIG Con. The con of article marketing is that you have to come up with unique content for each and every site you post to.
Why?
Because using the same article over and over again and posting it to numerous sites would break the Google content rule which basically means that Google doesn´t want duplicate content.
Besides that the article sites don´t like duplicate content either. Using the same article on many different sites thus won´t help you in your efforts to rank high.
In a nutshell you have to produce new, fresh content for each and every site you want to create backlinks from. And that of course is a very time-consuming undertaking. Simply put: It sucks big time!
But don´t worry. There is two possibilties that I know of to get any amount of unique article content without slaving yourself to write all the unique articles yourself.
1. You could outsource the article writing and the submission of the articles to someone else. If you have some money to spend then this is a good way to get the work done. And it won´t cost you your pants either. Here is a link to learn more about outsourcing for the industry´s leading expert John Jonas:
2. The other way I know of to get great contextual backlinks and which solves the aggravation of writing so much content is to utilize a powerful software tool.
You might have heard of article spinning software before and if you are anything like me than you´ll be very sceptical about the implementation of such a software.
It is hard to believe that a software can crank out unique articles that do not stink because they are a terrible read, isn´t it?
In fact there are software tools I have come accross during my research on article marketing that spin articles and boy, you´ll end up with a ton of illegible crap.
But I dug deeper and discovered a software tool that helps you to create any amount of unique articles which are perfectly readable.
The software I discovered is called Rapid Rewriter. It is a great helping tool to produce hundreds of unique articles within 60 minutes or less.
It just depends on the pre-work you invest – yes there is work to be done on your side, not that much though, it is way worthwhile and it is the reason why this software is so brilliantly different. In short it works like this.
1. You write an article usually between 350 and 400 words long.
2. Within the software you rewrite each sentence 5 times in different wordings. If you are a good writer this rewriting will take less than 60 minutes.
3. The software has a built in Thesaurus to further exchange selected words with different words of the same meaning. You choose which words shall be spun with synonyms. All handy and easy.
4. You push a button and the software creates hundreds of articles in text or HTML from your article spinning the words and sentences you have created.
5. You´ll end up with hundreds of unique articles you can now download, export and submit to any site you like. BTW: The software even sends out the articles to 6 of the best article sites on the market.
It works. It is an awesome time-safer. This is a top notch software and it gets my highest recommendation. You can find out more about the software here: Rapid Rewriter
Alright, I didn´t want this post to be that long but the topic "backlinks" can hardly be dealt with in less words.
There is so much more helpfull information I´ve learned during my research on backlinks and I have decided to write an indepth report on backlinks which I´ll be releasing by the end of June 2010.
I would like to ask you a favour:
You can help me to create the best report on backlinks and article marketing on the market by leaving me your questions about backlinks in the comment section below.
I could not cover but an overview in this post and I´ll bet you have questions.Would love to hear them. Thanks.
Looking forward to get your feedback.

Have an awesome day

Hey Mirko,
Nice post here, very informative and great introduction to how google works!
You put it in such an easy to understand way, without overcomplicating things.
I like the diagram you showed there too.
Just a note about Hubpages. I've heard that if your Hubrank is under 75, then you'll get a nofollow tag. So that's just something to bear in mind if you're using Hubpages for the purpose of backlinks. However, if the quality of the Hub is good, that score shouldn't be a problem.
I have a question about backlinks:
What is the best way to organise your sites for backlinking? I've heard some people do a wagon wheel, or try doing a mini net.
Thanks for the great info again Mirko, you keep doing it bro!
Ciao for now!
Bailey
Hey, hey Bailey,
Thanks so much for your comment and for your question too. I didn´t know that hubpages.com have their own quality score system but I´ll be addressing that in my my upcoming report for sure. There are a lot more web 2.0 sites I´ll be talking about too.
Your question how to organize backlinking into a duplicable structure is spot on. Great and important question. I figured out how this can best be done and I feel tempted to answer it right away but I think I better keep it for the report
Stay tuned! Thanks for your continous support. Always love to hear from you.
Have a great day

P.S. I would love to get our “inner circle of supportive friends” together on a skype conference call to talk about JV ideas some time next week. For me it is of a great importance to work on my (our) first product to sell. Nathan has agreed and I´d love to expand the group to Jaycee, Darren, Sally and whoever else wants to take part. What you think?
Hi Mirko
I missed this one! I would love to work with you guys! Sally and i met at the recent Summit and discussed some ideas along with Mayleena from Denmark. But as a Mastermind group, I think we would be on to something working together. Count me in, for sure!

Quality Link building is all about posting links to your website at relevant sites. The sites could be anything from third party sites to blogs and reviews. A quality link building company can take care of this for you and it is found to be the best way of increasing the inflow of traffic into your website.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful blog. Keep Posting.

Hi Mirko,
I definitely like what you have done in writing this article! It incorporates everything our coach has taught us and you have done it in an engaging way.
That's great that you are coming out with a report, can't wait to read it.
My questions about backlinks is for a newbie starting out, what amount of time should one spend in getting backlinks to their website and/or blog? Also, you mentioned writing articles and such would it be beneficial to have backlinks to a squeeze page or a blog, which one should the concentration be mainly on?
Great information here Mirko, take care and talk soon!
Anna
P.S. Can I be in the “inner circle of supportive friends” group too?
Hey Anna,
you are already in the “inner circle”
Thanks for your comment and for your questions too. It is a great help to get questions like these. I have my own questions, know a couple of the main ones everybody seems to raise but it is an awesome experience to ask people what they want to get to know about a topic and then give it to them. – I feel tempted to answer your questions right away, but I hope you can wait until the report is released.
Will hop over to your blog as soon as possible to watch the 2nd and 3rd part of your videos on planning. Very good stuff! I highly recommend that people check out these videos from Anna: http://valuableinternetmarketing.com/internet-marketing/planning-the-key-to-your-success

Hey Mirk,
This is a great porst. I noticed that there are seemingly opposing views concerning the use of SEO tactics in today's market. Some will say that it's no longer necessary and give thier views for that statement and then you have the other view with their reasons.
It comes down educating yourself on the use of SEO. And when you finally come to the correct conclusion that marketing your site and using SEO works hand in hand, keywords are the common denomitor in both.
The trick is to determine your major keyword and using that as your focus of your marketing and SEO efforts. When that keyword is specific to your site, it should become your goal to employ marketing tactics and strategies tht incorporate that keyword and support it with minor keywords on topic.
Nice post,
Mike
Hey Mike,
I think you are spot on when you write “It comes down educating yourself on the use of SEO.” And I agree also that there is a lot of contrarian opinions on the implementation of SEO tactics in our market – well, one could even say there is a ton of contrarian opinons about almost anything in the field of online marketing, isn´t there? So my conclusion to that is to follow those, whom I know, like and trust and who have successfully implemented a certain technique in their marketing efforts. While doing that I concentrate on whatever technique I have chosen to follow and tend to not to listen to those contrarian voices to much.
In german there is this saying: “There are a thousand roads that lead to Rome.” And this is true to internet marketing as well.
When you are working on a rather tight budget and do not have buckets full of money to spend on ads like PPC it is a very good advice in my opinion to educate myself on the use of SEO.
Hope to have you back on my blog soon. Thanks for your witty comment and talk soon,
Mirko
Hey Mirko,
Really good post about Backlinks. Backlinks are something that have taken me some time to understand (still getting) there so thanks for explaing it in such a concise way. This seems to be an area that you're really learning a lot about. Good job!
Peace,
Darren L Carter
Hey Darren,
Good to have you back on my blog again. I agree, it took me some intensive hours of studying as well to get myself aquainted with backlinks and I believe that this is an area where you´ll probably never know everything (except if you were working for Google itself maybe) due to the constant changes of the algorithms of the search engines.
Thanks for compliments on my post and talk soon
Mirko
Hey Mirko,
Backlinks is one of the foundations used for SEO ranking but on page SEO is also an important factor. A set percentage of the algorithms by search engines looks at on page seo and the other set looks at off page seo. From my experience with niche marketing and getting traffic from search engines to those niche sites, including Google, a stronger emphasis is put on on page seo than off page seo for top ranking. I’ve seen sites with zero backlinks outrank sites with backlinks to them.
With the issue of duplicate content, there are actually no set penalty by Google. How you can get penalized by it is at your own site, if you use content from elsewhere and put it on your site. How it affects your site is when google stay at home mum’s visits your site for quality audit.
If they see that your site(s) uses content from elsewhere and is not unique, they just drop your own site down their SERPS. They will not remove you from their index or sandbox your site unless your site or too many pages on your site are an exact replica, 100%, the same as other site(s).
But you have made a very good point in using article spinners to submit content variations across directories. It’s also good to make such a variation at your site also, as submitting a similar article from your own site to the directories will get indexed in search engines from the directories first than your own site, meaning favoring the directories to rank the article first from the SERP.
Keep up the good work on your blog. I look forward to visit again, and learn from each other.

Louis recently posted..The Importance of Keyword Research For Internet Traffic – Part 1
Hey Louis,
Thanks so much for your in-depth and valuable comment.
In the vast majority of reports and ebooks I read about backlinks the authors say that about 90 % of a successful SEO campaign is related to a good backlink structure and only 10% derive from on-page SEO. But that does not necessarily mean that your points a contradictory. It would be interesting to get to know from you how your competition in the niches you are operating in looks like? I have seen webpages at the top of SERPs with little or no backlinks too. But a closer look at the competition told me that none of the competitors sites had done what I call the foundation of any SEO strategy: Keyword research and keyword placement on-page.
In more competitive niches where you´ll find pages of competitors who have done their foundation work right backlinks gain more importance as I have tried to point out in my post.
Concerning the double content topic you´ve made some more viable points and I agree with what you write. I´ve probably not explained my points in enough detail but I had article writing in mind and imlpied that when writing articles a webmaster would likely use the article on his blog as a post as well. Also as one would certainly place an anchor text in the article which of course all point back to a certain destination page url it is said that Google would devalue those links once the spiders discover duplicate content pointing to that page. As a matter of fact I don´t have my own experiences that could support that opinion yet but I found that all detailed reports are stating this to be an actual peril for those webmasters who do publish duplicate content with links back to their pages.
Great comment, thanks for visiting and hope to have you back on my blog soon.
Mirko
Hey Mirko,
I don’t disagree with with you on backlinking. Let me put t this way. Say when it all started you have found a niche with a keyword that gets decent searches, and non of the top 10 have backlinks to them and do not have a proper on page keyword focus. You fand find some if you look hard enough.
Now you come in and get a good on page done only with zero backlnks. You will actually outrank all of them. Now your competition notices this, and they do the same and on top start to get proper backlinks (good PR based and related to their niche). They start to go on top of you now. So then to beat them again, you need backlinks in the same manner they have done. i.e decent PR and relevant to your niche. If you have covered all your on page seo factors properly better than them, you will outrank them again.
The problem with highly competitive keywords is that quite a few are over saturated now (depending on the niche), and have already been properly done on page seo (if they know what they are doing), and have decent backlink structure. So trying to compete with those if you are fresh is not worth it. So best to go for the long tail with lesser searches.
No one really knows what are all the on page seo factors that Google or other search engines looks at first, as this proprietery to their algorithm. Yahoo also looks at contextual linking for on page seo when ranking a page.
What I mean with niche with zero backlinks outranking sites with zero backlinks, is the niche has not been overly saturated on its keyword of choice as the competition did not do the optimization, on page and off page properly.
I had a network of over 350 sites that I pulled down late December last year. So I cannot give you specific example at present from my end. I do have a niche getting decent google traffic at present for a few months now. All I did with it is on page seo and submitted some articles at EzineArticles only. The rest took care of itself.
I cannot reveal the niche at present as finding those are hard work. But as I grow my new network of niche site that I will be starting soon, and when I get one ranked with zero backlinks, I will be sure to let you know.
Our goal is to find these niches and milk the traffic from search engines. Otherwise the good practice would always be to go for the long tail for most niche which would be the first option for any new marketers starting out online.
PS. Forgive me if I have typo in my writing as I have two fingers suffering from arthritis.

Hey, hey Nathan,
I am so delighted that my little post is a help for your marketing quest. And mind you, I think the post´s topic is of interest for our challenge to pump up the volume of our list as well. Backlinks by nature are not only links back to our webpage which improve our ranks in the SERPs but it can also always be a source of good traffic to a squeeze page – you can of course use your squeeze page´s URL as the link you spread through article marketing. This indeed is something I haven´t done yet myself but I will do so the first time today. That is write an article related to our free webinar recording, insert the recording´s URL, spin it with the help of RapidRewriter and then post it to various article sites. Will let you know what the results are.
Looking forward to catch up with you soon,

Great indepth review of backlinking and article marketing in particular. Really enjoyed the discussions within the comments thread too and lucky I read them or I would have repeated everything Louis said.
One thing I have to add though in response to this: “Besides that the article sites don´t like duplicate content either. Using the same article on many different sites thus won´t help you in your efforts to rank high.”
This may be the case for a particular keyword but the thing to remember is that the same article can get ranked for hundreds of keyphrases. Yes it may not be indexed on your site for keyword A but it sure will for keywords B and C etc.
The other thing to keep in mind is that even if say the article is indexed at Ezine first because of its authority, the reader will still click through to the source if it’s written well, so in the end the results don’t change.
Just my thoughts and something to keep in mind.
Thanks for a really engaging read though Mirko
Awesome!
Hey Alex,
Thanks for your awesome comment and I am so glad that the discussion brought some further light into this important matter of duplicate content. In the end we´ll never know what big ole Google will do with our articles but you and Louis have made viable point there, that might leave people feel more confident to publish an article on different article sites without any changes on the article.
One way to circumvent the possibilty to get slapped for duplicate content – and that was my point really- is to use a powerful software that helps us to create any amount of unique articles.
I´ve found the RapidRewriter to be such a software. It is fun and easy to work with. It requires work but the results are amazing.
Looking forward to stay in close connection. I really enjoy the exchange of ideas.

Thanks for your comment. Which source of traffic to your website are you concentrating on then? Would have been nice to share this with us. BTW the main emphasis in article marketing is not the traffic you will get from a good article -although the competition in the market might be high that doesn´t mean that you can´t get a decent amount of trageted traffic to your desired webpage when you publish both valuable and good written keyword articles!- the main emphasis in article marketing is on getting backlinks to your website and thus fueling your ranking in the SERPs.

Hi Mirko
Very nice post, you highlighted very good points on it. I just want to say that I agree with you in general, but I don’t take that “duplicate content” so close to the hearth. As Jason Jell, the responsible for traffic and backlinks for Brad Callen (we all know who is Brad Callen) points, Google doesn’t know how to read. Sure, every ezine directory, authority sites and other syndication sites want original content. That’s why they scare people with this myth of “duplicated content”.
From what I learned, you can spin your title and first paragraph, maybe also the last paragraph and also the bio resource box. That’s enough.
I’ve been doing this and so far he is right, no problems from this, I have my articles (the same content) in my blog, several article directories, several content syndication sites and everybody is happy. And Google is giving me also good signals.
Cheers

Hi Mirko,
Thanks for the very helpful post Mirko.
Actually I did a course on SEO late last year as we were building our Thai silk site. I did stacks of keyword research and using great software like Micro Niche Builder (just Google it as I did not want to put an affiliate link in your comments box) came up with some great long tail key words, wrote web pages for each and got our site onto page 1 of Google for 7 of our KW phrases – result is excellent regular free traffic and our village is very happy.
BUT on joining our MWA program and creating my first ever blog, all my SEO expertise was totally forgotten or ignored.
I find it difficult to think SEO when I really want to express in a conversational way, the feelings, reactions and actions I have taken in our journey with AJ.
No doubt I should have paid more attention to SEO but to me I was more focused on getting my head around all this new info and being able to blog in a way that makes a connection with people rather than worrying about Google spiders and page ranking.
Can you relate to this Mirko? If so how have you solved the balance between SEO and reader relationships? Would love to know. Best wishes mate

I learned a bit about SEO from one of Ewen Chia’s vidoe training courses and it was good, but as Peter says, conversational blogposts are nicer – and helps you to make friends will can POTENTIALLY v=bring in money, rather than make sales or NO sales, but without building any ‘know, like and trust’ relationaship.
I think, as you said, balance between these 2 approaces is key. I don’t want to have a great conversation with myself! I still need to attract generic traffic. So I will carry on brushing up on my SEO through you and Mirko and a few others.

I am probably more excited than our players and I keep my fingers crossed for an extraordinary German team.

P.S. I´ll try an catch you on the phone the next days. Have a great day, Mirko
You make some very good and helpful points Mirko. Backlinking is a huge subject and there is so much to it that we could never begin to fathom as Google is constantly changing its aglorithms.
Nevertheless it’s obvious that article marketing is not dead as some would lead us to believe so it pays to keep at it and find ways to recycle them like producing free ebooks from them and submitting them to free ebook or document sharing sites.
Looking forward to your backlinks report. A section about easily finding dofollow sites would be good.

I think a section on finding dofollow and comluv sites, as well as keyword luv sites, would be helpful.
I have used a few articles for ezine but never got spinning articles. I would rather write fewer good articles than hundreds of bad ones.

Hey Stephanie.
Thanks for leaving your appreciated comment. I´ll take your requests into consideration.
You are spot on when you emphasize the importance of writing and posting good articles. The software I´ve discovered and introduced here on my blog creates any number of quality-articles because the software only assists you as the creator. It doesn´t replace you. Using an article spinner thus is a form of leveraging your own work.
Have a great day

Hi Mirko,
Nice new picture at the top. With Rapid Rewriter does it normally take you 30 minutes or less on average ?
The tool I use for backlinking called AMA, has an option where they give you the option to do sentences re-writes after you submit an article across their network.
I have not used it much in the past as I already had paragraphs re-writes and was using the spinners delimeters to get their software to spin the paragraphs.
I missed talking about that part of AMA when writing a review on it.
I will try it out first within AMA and see how it works before deciding if I should get Rapid Rewriter instead.
PS. I was planning to build software on this but with what others have done, I did not see a point to invest time on it.

Hey Louis,
A pitty that you can´t join us tonight on our second mastermind group call but we´ll try and get the call recorded so that you´ll be able to cacth up.
With Rapid Rewriter it does take me more than 30 minutes. It all depends on your original article´s length. With Rapid Rewriter it is recommended to find and write alternative sentences for each of your original sentences from your original article. The second step then is to find alternatives for single words within all the sentences you´ve created. Rapid Rewriter has a very simple but very effective software interface to do that + a powerful thesaurus to support you.
It usually takes me between 1 hour to 1:30 to completely rewrite an article. The spinning then takes place automatically on the push of a button. The results are hundreds of unique articles.
I definitely recommend that you check out the Rapid Rewriter software. The creator, Matt Carter, has invested a lot time and effort to make this software easy to handle yet very effective and powerful. I don´t think it´d be worth to invest the time and money to create that software on your own.
Have a great day

I will take a look at RR. I am in Matt’s list actually. He’s a good friend of the AMA guys also.
I gave AMA’s sentences rewrite a go just now when submitting some backlinking to one of my blog post. Spent 40 minutes to re-write the sentences it presented in front of me.
In all it made the title 400% unique and the body 89% unique. I will see how much backlinking I get from this 40 minutes of work. If the content is not > 30% unique, AMA will not submit it to a blog.
I will go through the videos soon.
Louis
PS. I’ll be looking forward to read your free report on backlinks.

Making use of article directories is a good way to make your website a success. Even though article writing can be boring, it is ultimately worth every bit of time that you spend on it.
Wonderful to read!
hey Mirko
i’m a fan of article marketing but they can be so time consuming
i tried a few spinning programs without much luck – only got very ordinary articles which is not unusual – as you also pointed out
so thanks for the tip on Rapid Rewriter – you may have bought me back loads of time
keep spinning

Hey Allan,
Thanks for your appreciated comment and I am glad if I could be of any help with your article marketing endeavors. A good article spinner like Rapid Rewriter definitely helps to reduce the amount of work you need to put into it.

Mirko,
You gave lots of good ideas and expressed them very clearly.
Writing multiple articles is a challenge for me as I attempt to write something correctly once and to do it over and over is somewhat unnatural.

Hey Cheryl,
Thanks for your comment. I dig your point but let me asure you that the rewriting can be a lot fun too. Makes you think your first “edition” over and over again which helps to get even deeper clarity. So buut yeah, it depends on the perspective one takes when doing that task – with the help of a little friend. I have pondered a lot on whether this is an ethical way of leveraging my own thoughts with the support of a software tool and my personal answer to this is: Yes. for me it is.

Great stuff!

Nice review. I have been looking at trying to find some software to make article marketing easier for me but I haven’t found a good program. Rapid rewriter seems like a nice tool to try out … I will definitely take a look at it.
By the way your affiliate links don’t work (the affiliate links in the article) you might want to fix them.
