How Leaving Comments on Blogs Related to Your Site Sky-Rocket Your Business
ByThis post of mine is part of the Amazing ComLuv Blogging Contest
When you are leaving comments on other people´s blogs that are related to whatever niche you are marketing to then your own online marketing efforts are rewarded in a multitude of ways.
Let´s jump right in and let me explain:
#1 Unlimited source of back-links.
Many blog administrators allow you to leave a link of your choice together with your comment´s text on their blog. Attention though: By default most WordPress blogs are set up with a nofollow-code which tells the search engine spiders not to follow certain links including those links left by blog visitors on posts. So even if you are allowed to leave your link those blogs won´t “reward” you with a back-link because they tell the search engine spiders not to follow your link.
In order to get a viable back-link to your site/blog you need to make sure that you leave the comments on blogs that have the “nofollow” default code disabled for the comment area.
The picture below shows the entry section of the comment luv plugin and shows you how to use it.

All blogs that use the CommentLuv plugin which is available for different blog platforms like WordPress and Blogger have a dofollow code. This code replaces the nofollow default setting in the blog´s comments area. CommentLuv blogs are hence a great resource to get back-links to your desired blog/site.
#2 Increase traffic to your online business
If you´ve found a good blog post in your niche join the discussion. Be helpful, add different angles to look at the post´s subject through your comment and if you disagree write a kind but controversial comment. If the blog you´ve chosen has a lot of readers this can drive a decent amount of traffic to your blog/site. And if those people who noticed your comment on someone else´s blog found your comment interesting or helpful they are inclined to leave a comment on your posts as well.
I am certain that you´ll agree that there is nothing worse than writing and posting on your blog and then nobody leaves comments. Acknowledge this and chose to be different. This will be a big turning-point for formerly deserted blogs. And it is so simple! Reward other people´s work (if they deserve it, of course) by leaving comments and you´ll almost inevitably attract others to leave comments on your posts as well. The law of reciprocity is at work here. Make use of it!
# 3 Build up your community, your reputation and leave massive footprints
I assume that you´d only leave a comment on blog posts that you´ll find interesting. So do other commenters who leave their comments on the same post and hey, those are obviously like-minded people. Go figure! Now, check out their blogs too – they might likely do the same with your blog. Start to enter inter a discussion with them. This way you´ll increase your community of like-minded people online and at the same time automatically build your reputation as part of a community.

Go and get yourself a Gravatar at gravatar.com so that each of your comments carries your chosen logo whenever you leave comment. This will not only add to your general visibility but will make it easier for people to re-recognize you within your community. This way you´ll leave massive footprints.
# 4 How Comments can turbo-charge your learning curve
It is not only a fact that you can learn a ton of worthy information from other people´s free posts. Furthermore in your own comments on other blog posts you are free to ask questions and I know a lot of blog administrators who love to answer related questions put forth on their posts.
Also the other commenters will probably join to answer your questions if you place it as an open question to all participants. Thus you will be able to learn from your fellow bloggers and turbo-charge your own learning curve.
Are these 4 strong reasons to leave comments on other people´s blogs all the reasons there are? Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
Please leave your comments below.
P.S.

Hey Mirko
Super 4 reasons, well done, you covered mostly everything I can think of.
Great point you made about the “no-follow”, in an ideal world all blogs would have do follow links, but it does not really put me off leaving a comment if they don’t.
One more thing, by regularly leaving comments on a person’s blog, you ideally build up very good relationships with them, this can ultimately lead to them writing a blog post about YOUR blog, which sends even more traffic.
That happened to me a few times and those posts still send traffic to my blog daily.

Hey Sally,
Thanks for your comment and I absolutely agree with your amendments. The relationship you can build with other bloggers by actively participating in a post discussion is price-less. In helps to build a community of like-minded people and strengthens eachothers efforts to get our messages out into the bloggersphere.
Sally, your blog posts are constantly adding value to the online marketing community so no wonder that people will write about your posts and recommend their readers to follow your posts. Just in case I haven´t done so – Dear readers and friends, do yourself the favour and hop over to Sally´s blog by clicking on here name on the left side of her comment or by clicking on her link to her latest post at the end of her comment. Hey Mirko,
Awesome post dude. You’ve mentioned some super-awesome points.
I think comments are just more than getting traffic and backlinks.
I’ve build some great relationship with other bloggers from blog commenting.

Hi Mirko
Yes you are so right, I tend to do these things in fits and starts rather than being consistant, regular comments definatly lead to greater interaction. I think relationship building is the core of the business.
Sitting for hours in front of the PC can be a triesome and lonely practice, it is great to have the opportunity to talk to others.
I wasn’t aware of the no follow code so you have already helped with my learning curve… thank you.
I like the look of your blog page as well it is easy on the eye I have added you to my google reader

Hey Vince,
Thanks for your comment. I can perfectly relate to what you are writing. I spend so many hours in front of the computer that the interaction and the exchange with fellow bloggers is an important part to not hide behind the screen! Awesome if I was able to add something positive to your learning curve. Hope you have read Sally comment on the “no-follow” topic too. I agree that it is important to know this fact but also to still leave comments on valuable blog posts even if they don´t “reward” you with a back-link.
Thanks for subscribing to my RSS-Feed. We´ll stay in contact.

Hi Mirko,
Through blog commenting, I have actually met a wide variety of people.
Other than the link juice it provides, I think building a relationship with fellow bloggers is one of the main aspect I like with blog hopping.

Hey Louis,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your appreciated comment – and thanks for the compliments on my family.
The plugin is brand new and I stumbled upon it while, yes, doing my regular blog hopping:-) I also noticed that a lot of the big-guns in our industry have already implemented this plugin so I figured I better go and try it out. Right now I still have a small glitch as my video on the top right corner is still overlapping the pop-up but I hope that I´ll be able to sort that out. At 37 USD I think it is fairly priced and it has a very easy yet powerful setting-function. Lot´s of ways to change colours, implement graphics and change the size.
You can get more information on the plugin here: http://mirkogosch.com/popupdomination-plugin – and yes, it is an affiliate link

Hi Mirko,
Great information on blog commenting, something that I have been slacking on the past couple of weeks but have picked back up because I do know the importance of it and you have outlined all the reasons here really well.
I have decided that if I spend a certain amount of time daily and stick to it then I will not feel like I’m wasting a lot of time. Sally is right in that it builds a lot of great relationships with others and you really do gain a lot of great information from reading different posts as well.
Keep up the good work and that’s good you entered the contest, I was thinking about entering it too but didn’t have the time. Take care!

Hey Anna,
Thanks for taking the time to hop over to my blog and leaving your nice comment. You know what? I didn´t have the time either but the folks from ComLuv and FamousBloggers are such a nice crowd of people and as I was having a very small issue concerning the set-up of their plugin I had some really good conversations going on with them. They then asked me if I would like to take part in the competition and I knowing I had little to no time I said to myself “What the ****, I do it”. Since the topic was an easy one for me as I have my own experiences and the belief that this “stuff” works so well and is a lot of fun, the post was written in less than 45 minutes.
Talk very soon,

Hi Mirko,
I never realized until reading you post just how powerful blog commenting can really be.
The blog commenting process for me was just a simple visit, read, learn, agree or disagree but always, always give the poster the courtesy of a valuable comment.
Not just being nice but trying to add some value in any small way possible.
Mirko I noticed Bailey took the words out of my mouth in his comments. I also have always appreciated the time, care and supportive comments you have always provided, not just for me, but for everyone. “Helping Others By Sharing Information” is not just an inspiring blog headline Mirko —you do walk the talk and are the REAL DEAL.

Hi Mirko
You must have written this post knowing I was coming for a visit, along with some of my fellow class mates.
A little about me – My name is Sue McDonald and I am a student of Mark Terrell and I am actually going through the course a second time – by invitation. I love it and know if I do all he says, I will be successful. I am Australian but the US is my second home as I have family there and visit quite often. This is why I started Internet Marketing so I can travel whenever I want and have the money to do what I want.
Well I hope you are doing well and you become very successful. I would love you to come visit my blog and leave a comment.

Awesome Post Mirko!
Seriously mate, loved the way you combined the REAL reasons for blog commenting into one epic post. Because its about community and links, and you need to know that you are doing both in order to do ir effectively. Now people know – great stuff.
Can I just add something that I think your readers will definitely enjoy (and you too if you are not aware) Firstly – I have noticed that you can put your name @your keyword even if keyword luv is not installed, it still hyperlinks the whole thing – provided you leave no spaces (like I did here)
Also – and this is the GOLD NUGGET;
Here is the post – but in a nutshell, register your site with commentLuv and then when you leave a comment you can choose from your last ten blog posts.Brilliant way to increase clicks and spread the keyword love of ALL your posts.

The first tip is yet another gem. Awesome. Did you discover that by accident or did the awesome ComLuv people do “that” deliberately and I just missed this info? [I obviously didn´t follow your link yet
One more thing: In your latest post you said that you are going to release a special post or report on backlinks, can´t remember which one of the two right now, anyways, holy smoke, that kind of scared me at first, because you always come up with such valuable and wittingly researched and well prepared information for your readers that this will definitely be tough to compete with…but I quickly changed the perspective and now I love the fact that we´ll both be working on such an important topic of SEO – backlinks. There is some awesome stuff ahead
Have a great day and talk soon.

Yes it’s Mark and I am following my students as they post on other peoples blogs. They don’t know that I am always checking to see they are getting results. I am passionate about helping them achieve and then they are able to make some money online exactly the same as I am doing. It is not really difficult as long as they are willing to put in the effort.
Always pleasing if I can see some of my students have posted comments. Keep up the good work.

4 points, very well made! I’d certainly not considered number 4 before and it’s something I’ll try and implement in the future.
It’s always good to look out for the do follow blogs but if it’s a nofollow that would necessarily put me off leaving a comment. You might not get the link juice but there’s still a chance someone will click the link and pay you a visit!

You are right, usually when doing the blog hop on my favorite topic (internet marketing) I don´t care whether it is a do-follow or no-follow blog. But for the promotion of affiliate mini-sites or mini-blogs it gets more interesting because of the desired backlink I can get.

Building a community is what you really need when you have business. All people around you will be your asset in attaining all your goals. What you’re discussing is somehow the belief of “You scratch my back, I will scratch yours too.”
Cole Stan recently posted..Present Culinary Delights With Food Gift Baskets
Hey Cole,
Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment on my post.
The “I scratch your back, now please scratch mine” analogy is something I´ve heard many times before and concerning the points I´ve been trying to convey in my post I have to be blunt and tell you that I disagree.
The way I promote the “blog hop” as a means to get my own words and information out there and yes, drive traffic to my blog as well is not just a technique that works.
What it really is to me is that it is a way to gain further insights into my fields of interest by visiting my fellow marketers´blogs. It´s all about sharing value. The major point here is to really I contribute to the discussion and not just do it because I hope to get some traffic back to my blog.
Have a great day and hope to see you around again
Mirko
I’m glad to hear that coming from you. The concept is more deeper than I every thought of. You’re right, the statement I’ve cited is commonly heard/seen everywhere but more on a negative side (as I can consider it actually). You only proved that you don’t really want a plain business community, rather a friendly business community where you can help others by sharing all your ideas.

Comments are the first thing I do when marketing a new blog. That paired with guest posting results in quick traffic without the waiting time for natural search results. Through time though, I have seen many bloggers stop commenting because their search results overcame that comment traffic. But they are missing out regardless.

To be honest, first goal i do commenting is to get backlinks, especially to blogs which have commentluv plugins installed.
But i also do commenting in a nofollow blogs.
For blog owners this plugin is extremely useful to gain traffics and commenters, just have to be more extra careful with spammers.

Hey Kim,
Honesty is always appreciated here on my blog. The point in my article remains that if you are doing it just to get backlink you are missing out on important lessons you could learn from the blog you pay a visit too. Actually I thinnk that these two things go together extraordinary well. Comment by adding something of value to the discussion, learn and get a backlink. Win-win at its best.
Mirko
Hi there
Blogs comments is a really nice way of getting those extra links in addition to your regular link-building when you contact people for link exchanges. It is also true that you learn a lot during the time you read posts.
Great post by the way
One thing I love about commenting is that it also creates long term traffic, and the links end up on pages that have good PR later on as that blog gets older.
