“It´s all about the Benjamins, not the benjamins.”
By Mirko
Gosh, its late again, but I need to write this down…
To all those of you, who might recognize the headline of this post, as being taken from “CAREER RENEGADE” by Jonathan Fields and who believe that the paragraph from which the headline statement is taken, is worth way more than the price of the book,
to those of you I declare immediate friendship.
Too the majority of you who will think…what the heck..(??) .. it might be helpful to read this:
”
THE POWER OF PEOPLE
Barring the rare happy hermit, Csikszentmihályi also reveals that most of us thrive to a greater extent when we are aound others, especially like-minded others. Yes, even stressed-out, solitude-seeking people. Human beings are innately social. But, who we are social with determines to a large extent how satisfied we are with what we are doing at any given point.
When I speak I am often asked about the benefits of being a bit of an entrepreneur. People say, “It must be amazing to have total control over your life, to work when you want to, to make as much as you want, to have control over every aspect of your job.” We´ll get to how much of fact and fantasy there is in that statement later, but people are universally surprised when I answer, “Actually, the best part of being an entrepreneur is not the control you gain over wealth, but the chance to handpick the people you surround yourself with and create an organizational culture that is completely in sync with who you are.” Translation, it´s ll about the Benjamins, not the benjamins.

Do you resonate with that? You are invited to leave your comment below.
And yes we will have to talk about the benjamins as well, soon. But basically, they will follow the Benjamins of your job.
Have a superb Halloween 2009 and Spread The Good, Attract The Good (It works!)

Hi mirko,
very interesting blog bost. And yes what is surrounding us shapes our character, too. New brain science also confirms what we all knew instinctively long ago.
If you have a new colleague at work and he uses an expressio nwe dotn like – sure enough four weeks later u catch urslef using the same word. Our subconscious just takes it as sponge.Sad enough:-) So we better watch what surrounds us.
Also you talk about Csikszentmihályi and the flow – it allways comes to flow right at the limit of our competence limit, thats where we enjoy most and it also reflects how far we are in that skill. Very Interesting – keep going, eager to read more my northern friend.
Cheers ,Dirk

Hey Dirk,
thanks for your comment. The latest brain scientists discoveries match 1:1 with my own experiences – unfortunately it happened to me as described in your comment at work, where you usually spend a lot of time with people and it seems inevitable that we pick up words and sometimes even habits we don´t like from people we don´t like. Gosh.
So, yes let´s pick our environment with caution, whenever possible.
Talk soon,
spread the good

Hi Mirko,
Great post! I could not agree with you more. There is a saying, “You be come what you think about.” Which is very true and another which I know you will like which is: “You character is the sum of those you hung out with.”
I love this business and the awesome people that it has brought into my life.
Keep up the great work,
You have a choice so, make it a better than terrific day!
